Simply a small lighthouse on a high point. It is a lighthouse friend, a reminder to navigators that, although beautiful, the barriers and the falésias that meet there are dangerous. It is a stretch of the coast of Touros, located between the fishing colonies of Carnaubinha and Perobas, which advances for the sea. It is one of the extreme points of the Brazilian coast toward Africa and Europe, a little below of the Ponta do Calcanhar, where the coasts North and East meet to form the Brazilian Northeast.
Barreiras does not have fishermen's houses and nor has it been discovered by tourism. It is a beach that enchants one for its wild beauty and for the peace that the solitude provides. And it has another detail, in that it does not allow that the man can enjoy it any time that he wants. He has to respect the going-and-coming of the tides. In the low tide, the invitation; in the high water, the lighthouse also is an warning to anyone who to tries to cross it, without knowing the way of the rocks.
The lands that form the barriers seem that they had come of the sertão and they had been forged to face, day and night, the force of the sea, But already there are signals that soft water beats in hard rock in such a way until it pierces, therefore it is clear that constant action of the waves leading for the sea, small pieces of it are carried in each onslaught. The vegetation also reminds of the sertão and the cardeiros and xiquexiques are on the heights seeing the ocean as an immense lake.
A hard dirt road, which binds the two communities, passes to the side, respecting a distance of 300 meters. Some houses have started to appear along its edges, the part more advanced and prettier, where the lighthouse is, it is delimited and there nobody can construct as the land belongs to the Capitânia dos Portos, which is responsible for the maintenance of the system of lights along our coast. The neighboring lands are fenced, perhaps waiting the real estate speculation that the tourism is provoking along the coast of Touros.
To arrive in Barreiras there are two ways, both from the Br-101. First route is by one hundred kilometers of highway, tarred until Touros, and from there to head for a coast road that passes for Carnaubinha in the direction of Perobas. Barreiras is next to this beach: the second route is for Rio do Fogo, 80 kilometers of tarred highway and to follow from there the hard dirt road until Perobas and to Barreiras. The most beautiful route, from Touros as well as Perobas, is along the beach, taking care to observe the schedule of the tide. A suggestion: In the bar and restaurant of the Pólo das Águas, at the edge of Perobas, they have a 'pastelzinho de deuses', mainly it has filling of 'arraia' (a fish)..
