The beach of Genipabu, considered the initial landmark for tourism in the potiguar region and one of the most sought looked and divulged destinations during the decade of the 1990´s, continues the intensity of its brightness and its glamour, enchanting those who visit. Its famous dunes, which already have been on the covers of the main national and some international tourism magazines, have as attractions the passeios of dune buggies and dromedaries
The impotence of dunes in the fight against the sea and the old coconut trees and part of ancient fishing village always was a characteristic of the exotic beauty of this truly tropical beach. In last the 30 years the action of the winds and man has changed its landscape.
In Genipabu the exotic invitation is for the desert, which is represented by the dunes. There, you start with a ten minute passeio, being lead by dromedaries. Besides the climate, the landscape and the animals, the operator also offers at your disposal Arab clothes, ideal for photographs.
Later, nothing is better than a passeio without emotion, with emotion or with much emotion, by toboggans on the dunes that separate the beaches of Genipabu and Santa Rita. They offer at your disposal for the adventure to those that define the type of trip and the degree of ascents and descending.
If you find this not enough, at the edge of the beach also is offered passeios by horseback and by rafts that approach the coralline formations, known by the natives as the picão, which at low ebb tide offers a calm and tranquil bathing area some 400 meters from the side of the beach.
If you intend to really know Genipabu, besides these passeios on the beach you are offered tranquil lodging. You have two excellent options, to be in a hotel on a huge dune covered with native vegetation or to stay in an inn (pousada) where the sea and the river Ceará Mirim divide.
The first is the Genipabu Hotel, at the top of the hill that allows a panoramic view that goes from the tip of Santa Rita to Jacumã. From another angle you discover Natal appearing behind dunes. It is a hotel, Swiss style chalets, with 30 apartments, swimming pool, restaurant, besides a hall for events.
The Pousada Vila do Sol is very quaint and has 12 apartments and a swimming pool that rivals with the beauty and the tranquility of the delta of the river Ceará Mirim, at the instant where it empties in the Atlantic Ocean. In restaurant terms, Genipabu well is served. At the end of the beach of Santa Rita there is the Bar and Restaurant 21, at the south end of the dunes, with typical food based on fruits of the sea. In the other extremity, to the north, it is the Recanto do Morro, traditional and older. Also you can eat very well in the small bars and restaurant and the seaside barracas, constructed for the Conselho Comunitário of Genipabu. They have plenty of fish fried in dendê and crab cooked in water, salt and coconut.
