A beach destined to become a great tourist enterprise. This is the definition for Muriú, a beach on the coast of Ceará Mirim, 44 kilometers to the north of Natal, that 15 years ago, was just a beautiful cove, with a fishing village, that had its tranquillity broken in the months of December, January and February, with the arrival of the 'veranistas' (summer people). In middle of the last century, all the considered rich families of Ceará Mirim had a house for the summer season, in Muriú. But in the seventies, the beach started to be divided with the natalenses.

Now, the international class hotels are arriving and the tourist who goes to have fun in the esquibunda of Jacumã, a neighboring beach, comes to the bars and restaurants, that are concentrated in the square of 'igrejinha' (little church). There are options for any palate in the great 'barracas' that receive the names from Barraca de Muriú, Golfinho Azul, Atlântica, Mira Mar, Brisa Mar and the Sol e Mar, Muriú also has its 'parrachos', not yet explored by tourism and are the privilege of the fishermen and veranistas. They are known as Buraco da Véia, and are appropriate for swimming by the children and older folks. It is a coralline formation, of five kilometers of long and extend one kilometer from the coast.

Good, the certain name would have to be Buraco da Velha, but in the slang of the fishermen it is the Buraco of the Véia. The origin of the name traces back to the beginning of the last century and to the old ladies, mothers of the fishermen that lived there. It is that they wanted to take bath in the sea hidden from the men. They would take a small boat, the catraias, and went until the reached the parrachos. There they were free to have their fun as they wanted. It was a true club of 'luluzinhas'.

The beach is receiving several important investments, one of which occupies a great extension along the coast, after the last summer houses until the right bank of the river Maxaranguape, investment with European capital to install the first the golf course in Rio Grande do Norte.

Muriú is linked to Natal, by the BR-101. Those that desire to go for the coast route, are advised to use a traction vehicle, observing the areas where the traffic is forbidden. On the way, between Genipabu and Barra do Rio there is a river crossing of the river Ceará Mirim, that is made using small rafts.
